In 2018, we completed work on a new football field at Gar Qarsa Primary School which was funded by GIZ. The new pitch is a sand and gravel pitch that can be used throughout the year regardless of weather.

HODI has been working with Gar Qarsa Primary for a few years and the pitch was handy in helping us deliver our life skills and football sessions. Our Sport on the Cutting Edge project, funded by Women Win, has been delivered to more than 200 girls and boys. The aim of the project is to significantly lower the number of girls undergoing female genital mutilation.

The headteacher and the board of this school have been extremely supportive over the years and this has allowed us to deliver these projects efficiently. The headteacher, Mr. Diid Arero, has this to say:

“I sincerely express my appreciation to HODI for their contributions to our school for several years including our new school field, one among the two of its kind in Marsabit County. They have also provided us with balls, nets, playing kits and other equipment.

Over the years, they have trained our sports leaders and teachers. They have equipped and empowered boys and girls on life skills, FGM, drug abuse and gender based violence. They have especially empowered our girls to fight against early marriage and FGM. We thank them for their continued support.”
