  1. PROJECT SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS FOR IPDHE

Project Background

Integrating Peace Development Humanitarian Efforts (IPDHE) is a cross-border project that seeks to reduce conflicts by strengthening the capacity of local structures and government institutions to sustainably address conflicts along the Kenya-Ethiopia border. This is a project that is being implemented in partnership with VSO.  

HODI is therefore seeking to recruit two highly skilled community volunteers that will play a critical role in developing and strengthening local capacity peace building efforts.

Role Summary

Role type: Volunteer.

Location: Moyale, Kenya.

Contract term: 6 months, renewable.

Number of positions: 2

Terms for this opportunity

·  The contract term is 6 months, renewable subject to prevailing conditions.

·  Applicants must be residents of Marsabit County.  

·  Applicants must have a valid police clearance certificate.

·  Applicants will go through safer recruitment validation.

Summary of Responsibilities

1. Support community mobilization for project implementation.

2. Support community data collection at community level.

3. Support in assessments to identify traditional systems of conflict resolution.

4. Support opportunities for linkages, communication, collaboration, and joint action across local peace and humanitarian response systems.

5. Support development and implementation of community action plans to strengthen peace (peace, resilience and humanitarian) for indigenous institutions, peace committees.

6. Support in building the capacity of community members and raise awareness on conflict sensitivity, peacebuilding, social cohesion, resilience, and inclusion.

7. Work with the community members and primary actors to identify root causes of conflict and priorities for action.

8. Participate in learning and experience sharing forums, support mobilization of community dialogue, community workshops and cultural events.

9. Participate in quarterly review meetings.

10.  Advocate for and champion for initiatives that do no harm to project interventions while maintaining healthy safeguarding practices.

Skills and Knowledge

·  Language skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in local language understood and spoken by the local population

·  Good understanding of peace and conflict sensitive programming.

·  Ability and willingness to frequently travel to communities and stay at field locations.

·  Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions like long distance walking to conduct assessments.

·  Ability to work in an environment where there are physical discomforts associated with change in weather or discomforts associated with noise.

·  Contribute constructively to a working environment based on mutual respect, trust and commitment

·  Able to cope with stress and work under any challenging circumstances.

Minimum qualifications

·  Degree in community development or a related field.

·  Experience in community peace and development initiatives

·  Knowledge and experience with government or NGO sector, civil society organisational development issues and approaches.

·  Passionate about volunteerism and community work.

2. GRANT WRITING VOLUNTEERS

Role Summary

Role type: Volunteer.

Location: Remote.

Contract term: 6 months, renewable.

Number of positions: 2

The volunteers will be required to develop relationships with potential funders, write grant proposals, identify and pursue other potential income generating opportunities.

Terms for this opportunity

  • The contract term is 6 months, renewable subject to prevailing conditions.
  • Applicants will go through safer recruitment validation.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop a fundraising strategy. 
  • Research and data collection in preparation for grant proposals. 
  • Write and follow up on grant applications.
  • Communicate the organization’s mission to potential funders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Some level of experience in technical writing and budget development.
  • Knowledge and experience with the government or NGO sector, civil society organizational development issues and approaches.
  • Passionate about volunteerism and community work.

3. PROCUREMENT AND ADMIN VOLUNTEER

Role Summary

Role type: Volunteer.

Location: Marsabit, Kenya.

Length: 6 months, renewable.

Number of positions: 1

The volunteer will be required to support procurement and admin operations. 

Terms for this opportunity:

  • The contract term is 6 months, renewable subject to prevailing conditions.
  • Applicants will go through safer recruitment validation.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support admin operations.
  • Prepare and execute requests for supplies as needed.
  • Source for quotations from reliable suppliers and service providers as part of the procurement process.
  • Ensure that required supplies are availed as quickly as possible but with due consideration for the highest quality.
  • Manage a record of issued purchase orders and through the Finance Officer, ensure that service providers and suppliers are paid within a reasonable time.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in procurement, finance or a relevant field.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Some knowledge of Google Workspace tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with the government or NGO sector, civil society organizational development issues and approaches.
  • Passionate about volunteerism and community work.

4. COMMUNICATIONS VOLUNTEERS

Role Summary

Role type: Volunteer.

Location: Marsabit, Kenya.

Length: 6 months, renewable.

Number of positions: 2

The volunteers will provide communications support to ensure successful delivery of projects and fulfillment of the organization’s mission.

Terms for this opportunity:

  • The contract term is 6 months, renewable subject to prevailing conditions.
  • Applicants will go through safer recruitment validation.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support project teams in achieving communication deliverables.
  • Develop and execute a communications plan for the organization.
  • Collect pictures, videos and audio material for use in communications.
  • Document stories of change achieved as a result of the organization’s work. 
  • Regularly update and manage the website and social media handles.
  • Manage requests for information and interviews from the press. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication or a relevant field.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Some knowledge of Google Workspace tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with the government or NGO sector, civil society organizational development issues and approaches.
